Another night at the club

So I am back at Studio 600 for a night. Sometimes I get invited back to DJ the country dance floor. Every time I DJ I am reminded of how much I love to DJ. The challenge of choosing the right song and watching people dance and have fun with the choices. I do not pre select the songs I am playing (or at least the order) so I really have to watch the dancers and select based on the songs that they are responding the best to. Sometimes I will have a song that I have in my head that I really want to play but that does not fit the mood of the night. I love being able to play new songs mixed in with older songs that people may not have heard for awhile and inevitably the song that gets the best response is the older song that brings back memories and is just fun.

At the Club again

So tonite I am at Studio 600 again djing for the country dance floor. I must say that I really enjoy being the dj! Even more than I used to love going dancing. It is so fun playing the music and watching people enjoy the choices and order I am playing the songs in. It is a challenge to do it right, but it reminds me of being in the pep bands and marching bands and playing songs to get people more excited than they were before. The power of music, if a game was slow or the team was behind we could play a song that would get the crowd singing and dancing and filled with energy and get them cheering for the team again (especially at basketball games) I love performing.

Hello and welcome

I am going to be posting on this blog more. And starting to attempt to be more active as a DJ as well. I love to DJ and have been missing it! If you know of anyone that needs a DJ in Utah for a wedding, reception, private party or other event please email me at djhinckley@gmail.com or leave a message here in the comments. I have over 10 years experience and span a wide spectrum of music styles.

Thanks

DJ Jeffrey

Youth Conference

So my friends Rindy and Shane have added this blog as a friend link on their blog, so I suppose I ought to keep this one more current as well. I guess that is what I get for starting more than one. Earlier this month I got to DJ a Youth Conference for a Stake from Saratoga Springs, they went up north to Paradise UT. I had to take Rindy with me since they wanted instruction as well as dancing. I think I can say that we all had a lot of fun. Rindy taught some line dances, then with me as a dummy she taught some swing moves, after the instruction came my part. Although the instruction was good ol country music, I had to mix up the music style enough to keep all involved interested in dancing. I do think that it went well and as I said already, we all had a lot of fun.

Cameo

Last Tuesday and Thursday I did a return appearance for Studio 600. We had a lot of fun as the pictures below show. The Blaze dancers performed, there was food, a mechanical bull, 3 dance floors, bands, Kareoke, and a balloon drop blacklight dance. Enjoy.

Stake Dance

Wow, last night I DJed a Stake Dance. It is the first dance that wasn't either a wedding or country music dance. I had to reacquaint myself with top pop 40 music. It was a fun night though. It always amaze me what these kids dance to these days. They want some new popular songs, but the ones that get them on the floor the most are the goldies, and group dances. Macarena, Boot Scootin, YMCA and dances like these. In fact the newer songs are only danced to if they have some sort of group dance attached. I knew that already but, it never ceases to amaze me. And the kids have a lot of fun doing all of these things.

This is a blog about being a Mobile DJ

I want to start a blog about my experiences as a DJ. Both in the club and as a Mobile DJ. So that people have a place that they can see my thoughts on what a DJ does and how he affects the event.

Music is a really powerful tool. It makes or breaks advertising on TV. Lends to or detracts from a scene in a TV show or movie. It can excite, pump up, enlighten, sadden, create a romantic mood, and even at times inspire. When doing a dance the DJ is the person who is really dictating how the dance is going to go. Some use the techniques of being a very good MC. I pertain to the other school of thought, I do not consider myself funny or great on a mike, but I understand music, I was studying for awhile in college to be a music teacher and was on a music scholarship. I cannot deny the power of music. I use music in the dances to create the mood on the dance floor, thus keeping the dance floor full. Every event is different, a Stake Dance is going to be different than a School dance which is different from a club, and all are VERY different from a Wedding. Each one requires a different mix of songs, and a DJ that can read the crowd and play what they are responding to.

The DJ has a huge responsibility, which as a DJ I take very seriously. I have been a DJ in a Club and at weddings, church dances, school dances, and business events for over 8 years, and enjoy what I do.
